New town mayor of Hythe elected

Cllr Paul Peacock, town mayor of Hythe
Cllr Paul Peacock

At the annual council meeting on 11th May 2017, Cllr Paul Peacock was elected as the town mayor of Hythe for the municipal year 2017/2018. A long serving town councillor, Paul works locally and is also a Shepway district councillor. The town mayor is the first citizen and is elected annually. The Town Mayor chairs full council meetings and represents the town at civic and ceremonial functions.

Cllr Peacock was elected as a Town Councillor six years ago at the 2011 elections and has been deputy mayor for the last two years. Cllr Ann Mayne was elected as the Deputy Mayor. Both Councillors will serve their roles for the year 2017/2018.

At the meeting, Cllr Peacock appointed his wife Mrs Wendy Peacock to be mayoress to assist with the various civic functions.

Each year the Mayor carries out a number of fund raising events. Funds raised through these events will go towards a charity chosen by the Mayor for this municipal year. At the mayor making ceremony, thanks were giving to the retiring town mayor Cllr Michael Lyons for all his work over the past two years. The Mayor’s first engagement was to attend the mayor making ceremony at New Romney, Hythe’s near neighbour and fellow member of the Confederation of the Cinque Ports.

The town mayor will be pleased to attend worthy organisations on request. To invite the town mayor for a visit or event, please contact Hythe Town Council on or phone the office on 01303 266152.
